Transforming Shakespeare

Transforming Shakespeare gives young people the opportunity to see an Intermission Outreach production of a Shakespeare play, performed in a way that is modern, accessible and engaging.

Transforming Shakespeare can be adapted to suit the needs of your students as necessary and consists of:

  1. A 30 minute adapted production inspired by one of Shakespeare's plays.
  2. A 20 minute question and answer session; audience members have the floor to ask questions pertaining to the play, its themes and our methodology.
  3. An hour long workshop for up to 800 learners exploring in detail the themes, plot and characters in your chosen play.

What we need:

  • A theatre space, or large main hall/stage, with blacked out windows/curtains.
  • Power sockets.
  • 45 minutes setting up time and 30 minutes to strike the set.
  • A parking space close to the performance area in order to unload our equipment.
  • To be greeted by a staff member on the day to discuss the final details and to be shown relevant facilities - toilets, staff room, etc.
  • If you are booking a workshop we will need an open space or a large classroom, which should be cleared, with tables and chairs pushed to the side.

To secure preferred dates and times, please supply us with three possible dates and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Once agreed, we will send you a booking confirmation, detailing our terms and conditions. You *must* sign and return this to us in order to secure the booking. Alternatively, you can sign electronically by emailing us, stating that you agree to all the terms and conditions. This *must* be done within 7 working days. You will receive an invoice approximately 6 weeks prior to the performance. The invoice will need to be paid on or before the day of the performance, by cheque or BACS payment.

Hearts and Minds

Hearts and Minds is Intermission Outreach's Forum Theatre package and blends the works of Shakespeare with specialised theatre techniques to invite discussion and debate about the issues that affect young people today.

Hearts and Minds consists of:

  1. An hour long Forum Theatre exercise, based on situations and characters from a Shakespeare play, where young people actively participate in the performance to change the outcome as they see fit.
  2. A 30 minute question and answer session; audience members have the floor to ask questions pertaining to the play, its themes and our methodology.
  3. An *OPTIONAL* 45 minute workshop exploring in detail the themes, plot and characters of a Shakespeare play.
